How To Identify Unknown Tunes.

How To Identify Unknown Tunes.

So you just bought a truck and you were told it was tuned, you have no idea what tunes are on your truck, you have no idea who wrote the tunes. Well the truth us there is no sure fire way to figure out what tunes are on the truck or who wrote them but where going to walk you through some steps to attempt to figure this out.

Step One: Ask the owner you are buying the truck from or have already bought the truck from. This should always be asked when buying any vehicle that is tuned. Questions you should ask are:
"Who's tunes are on the truck?"

"What tuning suite was used?" EFI Live? EZ-Lynk? HP Tuners?

"Is it a single file tune or a SOTF (Switch-on-the-fly) tune?"

"What are the power levels on the tune?"

"Does the truck have any tuning hardware that comes with it?" EFI Live Autocal, EZ-Lynk Autoagent, etc.

Step Two: If you don't have any contact with the owner or they do not know. It is time to start looking for hardware. So you just bought a truck and you were told it was tuned, you have no idea what tunes are on your truck, and you have no idea who wrote the tunes. Well, the truth is there is no surefire way to figure out what tunes are on the truck or who wrote them but we're going to walk you through some steps to attempt to figure this out.

Step Three: Email/Call every single tuner that touches your platform and give them your VIN and ask them...yea no one has time. But you are more than welcome to email our support team with your VIN to see if we have a record of your truck.

Step Four: The only other way you can attempt to figure out your power levels is if you have the tune file itself or a data log. If you have an Autocal or way to record data you can email it to the support email and we can review it. if you have an Autocal with the file or revived your tunes via email you can send these to us and if they are unlocked we can review them and report our findings.
Step Four: If all the above steps fail we recommend getting retuned. It will be the only way to know precisely what tunes you are running. You might find a switch on the dashboard with a logo on it or a handheld tuner in the glove box or center console. Check for any devices hooked up to the OBD-II port. You may even be able to find stickers on the truck. This is not a proven method as people can get re-tuned and can have the hardware relinked to another tuner.

Step Five: If all the above steps fail we recommend getting retuned. It will be the only way to know precisely what tunes you are running.
